Understanding Long Distance Service
Long Distance calls include all calls outside of your local and regional calling
area. Long Distance calls may be made within your state ("in-state long
distance") or to another state ("state-to-state" long distance).
In-State Long Distance calls are a little known component of long distance
service and are typically more expensive than state-to-state long distance calls.
In-state long distance calls, also known as interLATA or intrastate, are calls
outside your LATA but within your state.
State-to-State Long Distance, or interstate, calls are those made to another state.
State-to-state calls are the most common and come with the smallest price
tag. Why? The cost of maintaining the network for regional toll and in-state
calls is higher because the volume of calls is lower and the expense is shared
by fewer phone companies.
Please be aware that your chosen long
distance provider will be responsible for your in-state long distance rates
as well as your state-to-state and international rates. Regional toll is not
associated with long distance service and will not be handled by your selected
long distance provider (if different than your local carrier) unless specifically
requested.
